Romanian General Commissioner to Expo 2015, Georgian Ghervasie, met the former Mayor of Milan, Letizia Moratti, being invited to participate at presentation of The San Patrignano Community, a center for rehabilitation and reintegration into society of young men and women with problems of drug addiction and social marginalization.
Letizia Moratti and Georgian Ghervasie discussed Expo Milano`s technical and organizational issues. As a former Mayor of Milan, Letizia Moratti was the ground vector in order to secure the bid for Milan to host EXPO 2015.
Romanian General Commissioner presented to Letizia Moratti, the main concept and design of the Romanian Pavilion, stressing out, as the name „Living with Nature” suggests, our country`s message is that tradition and modernity co-exist in harmony.
Letizia Moratti accompanied Georgian Ghervasie in a guided tour of The San Patrignano Community, which represents another example of co-existing. San Partignano Community is made up of social cooperatives and has been supported by Letizia Moratti since its foundation, 36 years ago. It helps young men and women with problems of drug addiction and social marginalization. There are currently more than 1300 people living in the community, without discrimination based on religion or nationality, and all of them are given a new chance to study and learn in order to completely reintegrate into society. Letizia Moratti`s leadership as president of Friends of San Patrignano led the comnunity to the growth of the largest drug rehabilitation center in Europe.
After visiting The San Patrignano Community, Georgian Ghervasie thanked Letizia Moratti for the invitation and the opportunity to assist to a positive and constructive experience. Romanian General Commissioner asked Letizia Moratti to visit the Romanian Pavilion and she pleasantly agreed the idea.
Letizia Moratti was former Mayor of Milan between 2006 and 2011, during her mandate she secured the bid oh Milan to guest Expo 2015. From 2001 to 2006 she was Minister of Education, Universities and Research. During her administration reforms of the Italian school system and university teaching was passed. One of Europe’s best-known businesswomen, Letizia Moratti Her dedicated a long commitment in the social field, against marginalization and drug addiction and she has been recognized by the UN in 2000, when she was appointed Civic Ambassador against Drug and Crime.
