Romania’s National Day at Expo Milano 2015

Romania’s National Day at Expo Milano 2015 was celebrated on Wednesday, July 29, the same Day Romania celebrates its National Anthem Day, through a series of cultural events sided by an economic forum.
The official ceremony dedicated to Romania’s National Day at Expo Milano 2015 was backed by a delegation of Romanian officials led by the President of the Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea, but also by high-ranking Italian officials, as well as Romanian and international press and public.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by the State Secretary  Daniel Ionită.

The Romanian delegation was welcomed at the Expo Milano 2015 by Andrea Olivero, Vice-minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry of the Italian Republic.

The Italian official mentioned that Romanians make up the largest foreign community in Italy, with strong business profile contributing one percent to the Italian economy. Olivero also appreciated the Romanian mix of tradition and modernity and thanked Romania for its contribution to Milan World Expo by exhibiting its original traditional heritage.

The President of the Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea mentioned the deep ties between the two countries at economic, cultural and political level. Moreover, he added that Italy is one of Romania’s main trade partners as witnessed by the consistency of economic cooperation between the two countries and the dynamic Italian business presence in Romania and ever growing trade exchange volumes.

Romania’s National Day at Expo Milano 2015 also included a Business and Investment Opportunities Forum set up in cooperation with the Romanian Chamber of Commerce with the objective of starting a series of new projects in cooperation with Italian companies and raise the interest in Romania of as many investors.

During the day, the folk ensemble ”Cindrelul-Junii Sibiului” performed in several venues of the Expo Milano 2015 site presenting Romanian traditional dances and costumes to the delight of the public. The evening closes with a classy performance of the Romanian Youth Orchestra conducted by Cristian Mandeal starring the soprano Anita Hartig.
